Come fly kites in Cambridge

Postby xkcd » Sat Jun 23, 2007 3:21 pm UTC

In a couple hours (2:30 or so if I make good time) I'll be flying a kite from the MIT athletic field. I have a kilometer and a half of line and a digital camera with a timer. Anyone in the area and looking for something to do?

I wanna come!

...But I don't think I'll make it by 2:30 or so. It's kind of a far walk from Austin.

I thought you meant Cambridge University here in England.

And then I realised you live in Yankland.

Either way, bit far from Surrey.

Is that in Illinois by chance?
And like a 2 hour walk from where I am maybe?

It's 3:30 and I just woke up...

And I don't where that is...

But I have googlemaps and a book for the T and I could use something to do.

There are far too many places called "Cambridge" in the world.

We have one too. It's quite a pleasant town. No university though.

I had no luck finding xkcd, but I didn't get there until 5.

Anyone for Guitar Hero at my place? It's in Somerville, which may as well be the same thing as Cambridge.

I have a PS2 and more controllers than will ever be necessary. =p

Having grown up in Somerville it is my solemn duty to convey to you the following message: DIE.

I have just about exactly enough time to get there.

But I don't know anyone, don't know the area, and have several other things to do with my day...

...and all that sounds really pathetic, in the context of xkcd. I should totally just go fly a kite.

:(

Considering the post was made on June 23, I don't think you do.

Not really, dude. You left Guitar Hero at our place.

You do have GH2, though. Maybe?

Sorry, maybe I should have enclosed my post in thread necromancy tags to make clear it was a bump of an old topic.

If you want to hang with someone significantly less exciting, I'll be guarding the VFW parking lot in Davis Square for Jimmy Tingle's Off-Broadway Theater tonight from 5:30 to 7:30. Feel free to drop by and experience just how pleasantly boring a job that is.

AWWW, DAMNIT THREADROMANCER!

I had my cell phone open, half dialed to call in some reinforcements...

Instead, I shall verbally deride you when I leave the Burren this evening. If I remember.

Which I won't.

Heh, if you're that hard up, drop by Davis square and come over some time. I bought a PS2 for the sole purpose of DDR... stopped that entirely, but decided clearly it was Fate and The Gods that caused me to have a PS2 still in my house when the Guitar Hero cravings kicked in.

I'd be willing to bet that there is a significantly higher percentage there than in any other two-adjacent-cities area.

Seriously, though. VFW parking lot on Summer St. behind Winter Hill Bank. Me and a barstool and the complete works of H. G Wells, 5:30-7:30 all weekend. Open invitation to all my mammalian neighbors to drop by and say hello, or possibly "sassafrass" which is a more fun word to say.

Will you be working Sunday, Bakemaster? I'm heading out of town for at least Friday night... but I'll be hanging about on Sunday, and I live a few blocks away from that. I might just pop down and say sassafras.

Yep, I'll be there Ths–Sun for the rest of the month (and beyond). Hmm... Maybe I'd better buy a raincoat. It'd be funny if I already knew someone here and didn't know it.
