[Deprecated by Lazy Mods] Points!

Postby TheTankengine » Wed Aug 15, 2007 9:30 pm UTC

I was thinking about having a completely meaningless competition for arbitrary points in this forum. Sound good?

Something along the lines of:
1 point for a suggestion that leads to the right direction of a solution
3 points for solving the problem

I can keep a running tally (because I like to tally things. Some call me the banana-man...) and edit names and points into this post if anyone is interested. What say ye?

Leaderboard of Destiny

b.i.o: 12 (link + link + link + link + 2-link)
ubergeek42 : 9 + 3 UberPoints (link + link + Uberlink + link)
TheTankengine: 9 (link)
tylerwylie: 8 (link)
Hammer: 7.5
Dark Ragnarok: 5 (link + link)
VTHodge : 3
27b/6 : 3 (link)
tarkadal : 3 (link)
Tendays: 3 link
Zaraden: 3 (link)
Sethicus: 3 (link)
trickster721: 3 (link)
Amnesiasoft: 3 (link)
taptap: 3 (link)
tombot: 3 (link)
someguy: 1 (link)
Axman: 1 (link)
Kabann: 1 (link)

As Tank and Hodge aren't really around to run this, Points! is closed until some other moderator steps up to handle it.

Having just benefited from the Help Desk today, I'm entirely in favour of random points.

Perhaps one day they might be cashed in for kudos, or even a thumbs up?

Good idea, so the people who received the help say who gets points (with evidence) ?

Welcome to The Help Desk, where the questions are made up and the points don't matter.

That's right, the points are like BeOS's market share.

__Kit wrote:Good idea, so the people who received the help say who gets points (with evidence) ?

I like this idea.

I will edit the Rules post to reflect the purpose of this thread. Of course, I can't make anyone do it so I will still have to follow up for the most part. But, I read at least 9/10 threads that pop up here, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I guess I'll start with whoever posts their accomplishments/solutions after this.

This may be an officially supported feature soon with the ability for the thread starter to set a comment as "helpful" or "Accepted answer", this would be added to people's profiles I think.

More thinking is coming. No promises, but comments welcome.

Would that feature be across the board? Or is that something you would just turn on for this forum?

Claimed.

Uh-oh, it's a tie!

EDIT: Maybe something akin to Fark's "enable vote" feature.

This would be rather like the Duke-Dollars thing on the java dev forums. Good idea though...

Turn it on for specific forums, coding also has help being given and received for example.

I would definitely be in favor of exactly that. It's not necessary for the other boards, but these would be great.

I'm claiming this one because I swooped in with the link. Also, I will now have 6 points. Hopefully the competition can pick up again.

I'm not aware of any conversion from fora points to Shrutebucks, but I think someone is coming up with a rudimentary fora points to Stanley Nickels conversion rate. Stay tuned for more details.

And yes, you guys can have your measly points.

It's late, I'm not tired, and I'm bored, so I'm going to be a point whore and attempt to claim some for all of these :P:

Most of those have a lot of "I don't know but maybe this". Points go to "Thanks Silver, it's all fixed now!".

Ok, thanks. Like I said, I was tired :P.

One for me.

Done . . .
Who are you and who am I
To say we know the reason why?
Some are born; some men die
Beneath one infinite sky.
There'll be war, there'll be peace.
But everything one day will cease.
All the iron turned to rust;
All the proud men turned to dust.
